Industrial Trolley Explained

An industrial trolley is a specialized transportation device used in warehouses, factories and many other industrial environments to move bulky loads from one to another point. It is used to help workers categorize, carry and protect a variety of goods and supplies in an industrial environment. Industrial trolleys are particularly efficient for people involved in the warehousing industry, who are supposed to move large amounts of loads on a daily basis.

The industrial trolley design varies, but the basic components are a set of four small wheels, on which a platform is supported, a flat surface where the goods are placed and a handle with which the users push or pull the trolley. Usually, industrial trolleys are large in size and are waist-high. Regardless of the total weight loaded, operating an industrial trolley is super easy, thanks to its lightweight design and high quality wheels (casters). Years ago, trolleys were made from wood, but these days, they are made from various metals. The industrial trolleys casters are most commonly made from pneumatic rubber, but also from hard plastic and steel.

Industrial trolley’s bed is usually made from heavy-duty, abuse-resistant materials, such as the steel. For transportation of heavy items or bulky loads on a regular basis, steel is the obvious choice, as it provides durability and strength advantages. For transportation of lighter items that are not heavy enough to damage the trolley, wood might actually be a solid solution. For some specific items or rare industrial settings, the bed can be made from plastic, composite material or steel mesh. But the frame is always made from a heavy-duty metal to add stability and durability characteristics, whether transporting light or bulky materials.

The movement of industrial trolley is based on a really simple design. Four casters are positioned at the four corners and are being moved with the user pushing/pulling the trolley. On most industrial trolleys, the rear pair of casters is fixed for added stability and the front pair is able to rotate, which allows an easier and smoother steering. However, there are also trolley models with all four casters fixed and other models with the casters mounted in the center of the platform.

Cost-efficient, affordable and highly productive, industrial trolleys are widely used and are becoming an essential part of many industries.
